Our Community Services directorate is responsible for an extensive range of activities that support the community, from babies to seniors.
Health and Access is responsible for protecting the health of the community by:
- enforcing public health legislation
- providing immunisation programs to the community for infants, school aged children and adults, and to achieve national targets across the age cohorts
- plannning for the health and well-being of the community by implementing the Municipal Public Health and Well Being Plan
- providing health promotion programs
- enhancing opportunities for people with disabilities to participate fully in community life, as is their right
Aged Services is responsible for coordinating and delivering community care and senior citizens' services for the community, in accordance with legislation, funding guidelines and Council policy.
Family and Youth Services support and coordinate a range of early years programs and facilities, along with programs and support for youth.
Leisure Services supports and manages the development of quality Council-owned leisure facilities and programs, in established and developing areas within the municipality.
Community Cultural Development engages the community in the process of development to articulate, reflect, strengthen and support the cultural values, capacity and identity of our communities. This department is responsible for:
- providing advice and developing relationships between Council and our Aboriginal community to facilitate reconciliation
- addressing the barriers to participation faced by Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communitiesfor developing and delivering community-focused festivals and events, and providing advice to community initiated events
- managing and maintaining Council's Art Collection, Public Art and the Civic Collection
- delivering the Artist in Residence Program and the First Impressions Youth Theatre
- facilitating the annual Cultural Heritage Program of events, tours, workshops exhibitions and lectures
- the Localities Accepting and Embracing Diversity (LEAD) Project, aimed at improving community understanding and acceptance of cultural diversity and reducing race-based discrimination
