Are you interested in using leading edge technologies in order to create efficient and effective systems for users? Are you interested in working in a challenging environment that is integrated with other parts of the organisation? Then you might like to consider a career in information technology at the City of Whittlesea.
All major organisations have come to rely on information technology and business systems to drive their operations. But not all organisations are fortunate to have the breadth of disciplines available in IT that the City of Whittlesea has. Our IT disciplines include network operations, business systems, systems development, helpdesk support, training, Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and mobile computing.
Our Network Operations and Support unit is responsible for providing support and maintenance for the organisational computer network and telephone system.
The Business Systems unit is responsible for the management of Council’s main database Authority which is used for Council services such as rates, mail and planning permits.
Our Systems Development unit is responsible for the development of business solutions for various parts of the organisation using Microsoft tools.
The Helpdesk Support unit covers the provision of computer resources such as desktop PCs, laptops, network printers and software, and provides over the phone or face-to-face user support.
The Training unit supports the learning and development of employees in software essential to the effective performance of their duties.
The GIS team manages the organisation’s GIS which brings maps and textual information together in one computer system so that users can retrieve property information.
The GPS and Mobile Computing unit develops and implements projects using the latest technology such as GPS, GIS, pen top computers and digital cameras to improve existing processes or create new ones.
Key projects
Key projects include the upgrade of Council’s Authority database, maximisation of Council’s electronic storage and implementation of the Whittlesea Information and Services certificate (WITS) program that ensures staff have the IT skills that they require in their role. Another major project involves the use of Microsoft SharePoint to develop systems to support business functionality including an image library, human resources recruitment program and Council meetings system. Another key project was the development of a video mapping system that takes images of properties from street sweepers so that valuers can review them electronically.
