Greg Scott

Position - Manager Engineering Services

Department – Engineering Services

Directorate - Infrastructure and Technology

Greg started his career in local government in 1975. At that time, much of the engineering design for capital works was done in-house. So with a Diploma in Civil Engineering, he set to work designing, building and maintaining the roads and drains of his district.

After a number of moves between various local councils, Greg joined the City of Whittlesea in December 2005 as Manager of Engineering Services. He was attracted to the council because of its reputation and the growth of the municipality.

"It was always seen as a fast developing area - innovative in things they do and technologically savvy. Whittlesea is very much at the forefront on that side of things. There are some major projects going on that I wouldn't have had exposure to in a smaller council. I saw that as a big advantage of working here."

Greg manages Council's engineering design section and construction department, and has a major role to play in relation to the Council's road network. He also oversees general asset management of roads and drains - recording and documenting Council's assets and forecasting the expenditure required to maintain them.

His portfolio also includes a number of large projects spanning multiple years and millions of dollars. He enjoys the many opportunities to problem-solve and find the best solutions to challenging obstacles.

"You have to work your way through – constantly talking with people and trying to work out the best way to handle things. It's good to be at the starting point, follow these things through and see them out."

As a respected member of the management team within the organisation, Greg appreciates the chance to have input and make things happen. "Everybody gets involved and is respected for their opinions, experience and abilities. You can put ideas forward and they do get listened to."
